Deep Tropical Moisture Pours into Crossroads, Yielding Scattered to Numerous Showers & Thunderstorms

Mostly Cloudy with Scattered Storms Overnight

A plume of tropical moisture has brought scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms to the Crossroads late today, and the showery pattern will persist through midweek. The large upper level ridge that has prevented significant rainfall for some time has split, with a trough over Central Texas. That trough is what is drawing the moisture into the region and providing just enough instability during peak heating to generate thunderstorms. By midday Thursday, however, the trough weakens and increasing downward vertical motion in the atmosphere shuts down rain chances. No additional significant rainfall is expected through early next week. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s, with lows in the middle 70s.
