Refugio wins the 2022 class 2A track state title

Featuring Shiner, Refugio, Yorktown, Ganado

AUSTIN, Texas — The class 2A and 5A state track meet kicked off early Friday morning. By the end of the day the Boys Refugio track team would win the state title.

Refugio’s, Ciara Tilley, threw the shot put 39 feet and 10.5 inches for a silver medal. Ernest Campbell wins state in the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 10.32 seconds. Antwaan Gross wins the bronze medal in triple jump with a length of 44 feet and 8.75 inches. Senior, Jordan Kelley, competed in the long jump competition and he would finish in 7th. The Refugio boys 4X 100 meter relay team win the gold medal. The team is comprised of Antwaan Gross, Jordan Kelley, Marvin Fox and Ernest Campbell. They finished with a time of 41.93 seconds. The 4X 200 meter relay team also win the state title with a time of 1:28:09, breaking a state record. The team’s runners are: Jordan Kelley, Marvin Fox, Jason Moore and Ernest Campbell. Payton Oliver in the girls 100 meter dash finishes in fourth place. Riley Haug wins bronze in the girls 400 meter run with a time of 1:00:39. Chai Whitmire finished sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. Jason Moore just misses the podium in the 200 meter run, finishing in fourth.

Shiner athlete, Doug Brooks wins the silver medal in the Discus throw with a length of 161.2 feet and shot put with a throw of 56 feet. Dalton Brooks, nearly won his first medal in the long jump, but placed 4th. Dalton would also finish in ninth in the 200 meter dash. Girls high jumper, Chesney Machacek, cleared 5 feet and finished in ninth. The Shiner girls 4X 100 meter relay team, comprised of Brinley Ramirez, Rylee Vancura, Lauren Faldyn and Jaleah Curtis, win bronze with a time of 49.89 seconds. Riley Rainosek placed eighth in the girls 800 meter dash. Shiner 4X 200 meter relay team finished ninth. Tyler Bishop finished ninth in the 300 meter hurdles. Shiner girls 4X 400 meter relay team finished in 6th.

Ganado 3200 meter runner, Alan Baez, was the first athlete of the day to win a medal. Baez won the bronze medal with a time of 9:46:07. He would finish in sixth.

Yorktown girls pole vaulter, Seely Metting, took sixth place, clearing 10 feet.
