Daniel Mendoza found guilty in the murder of Nathan Cortinas
Punishment phase continues in murder trial
GOLIAD, Texas -A Goliad County jury found Daniel Mendoza guilty on all three counts including murder. He was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.
The 20-year-old shot Nathan Cortinas and Brianna Bexley. Cortinas died in the incident. His infant son and Bexley survived. The jury deliberated for less than 15 minutes Tuesday morning.
Brianna Bexley, who was 18-years-old at the time was hospitalized with a single gunshot wound. Their infant son was in the backseat of the vehicle during the incident but was unharmed.
Mendoza could face anywhere from five to 99 years in prison.
The jury returns today after lunch at the Goliad Courthouse.
