Dangerous Heat Levels in Texas Next Few Days
Strong high pressure is continuing to bake the state of Texas. With strong high pressure, air is forced to sink. Sinking air heats up quickly and that is why temperatures are very hot in the state. In the Crossroads, we are seeing highs in the middle to upper 90s with some locations hitting triple digits. Some of the bigger cities like San Antonio, Dallas, and Austin will continue to experience high temperatures into the triple digits for the next few days. Excessive Heat Warnings are in place for the Dallas Metro into Waco. Excessive Heat Warning means when the heat index value is greater than 105 degrees for two straight days or the heat index value is greater than 115 at any time.
With very high max temperatures and triple digit heat index values continuing, Heat Advisories may be issued for the Crossroads this weekend. A Heat Advisory is when the heat index is between 105 and 115 degrees for at least three straight hours. Heat Advisory is issued when the low temperature is above 80 degrees for two straight days.
Remember HEAT SAFETY the next few days while you are out and about. ALWAYS check your back seat! The car is heat up very quickly in a short period of time. Remember your little ones and pets. Limit your time outdoors. The best time to beat the extreme heat is being outdoors in the early morning hours or in the evenings. Be sure you are wearing light colored clothes. You will absorb more of the sun wearing darker colors than light colored clothes.
You should stay hydrated. You should drink lots of water and stay away from alcoholic and carbonated drinks. Be sure to wear sunscreen to cut down on the harmful rays from the sun. You should at least wear SPF 50+. Also, think about your pets. If you have to walk your animal, consider doing it when weather conditions are cooler and not on the hot asphalt.
The oppressive heat will continue for the state of Texas until the upper high begins breaking down. Models suggest the upper ridge will break down by midweek next week allowing for some rain. As a result, the high maximum temperatures will begin to decrease as well.
