Dance to the music of the Queen of Soul at the Victoria Juneteenth Festival
VICTORIA, Texas — The annual Old Landmark Committee Juneteenth Festival kicked off at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
Juneteenth is a very historical date which celebrates June 19, 1865, the day slaves in Texas were told about the end of the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation.
The theme for this year’s Juneteenth Festival is “Dancing back to the time of Soul Train and Motown,” honoring the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
There will be speakers, live entertainment, free food, games and contests including dominoes and watermelon splitting.
Those who are up for breaking their dancing shoes out can participate in the “Soul Train” Line.
There’s a bounce house and splash pad for the little ones as well.
The festival will continue until 5 p.m. at 107 N. Ben Wilson Street.
