Cuero’s Hometown Holiday Celebration helps local stores

Local store owners who are struggling economically because of the pandemic, get revenue help from a Holiday Shopping event.

CUERO, Texas – On Saturday, Dec. 12, locals celebrated Christmas in downtown by attending the stores to do some shopping. This event was open to the public from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.

There was a special deal available to shoppers, where every $10 spent on items, got them a stamp on their Santa shuffle punch card.

If they bought $100 worth of items, shoppers qualified for a drawing that raffled a basket. The winner will be announced on December 15.

Many people were able to enjoy band music, take pictures with the lit-up Christmas tree, and enjoy concession food like pizza slices or desserts.

Crystal Irvin, manager of Paws & Claws, a non-profit thrift store there explains more about the importance of shopping local. “It is very important, especially for the business to survive. You know and we have a lot of discounted clothing at really great rates. I know a lot of people have lost jobs and just don’t have what they used to and so we hope that we’re a great service to the community, as far as discounted clothing,” she said.

Attendees could vote for the best decorated Christmas tree, where a silent auction was held, giving them the opportunity to take one of the Christmas tree’s in the competition home.

Irvin shared more about the importance of having the holiday event this year, due to the pandemic.

“It’s just getting the community together and coming out and actually seeing what we have, I think having the different vendors and being open late offers a great opportunity for people to come out and see because a lot of people don’t even know about us,” she said.

Many families attended and enjoyed themselves at the event. To learn more, click on the following link:
