Two teams from DeWitt County are going to the state semifinals. Cuero picks up its 12th straight win, this time in the 4A Division II state quarterfinals, 48-23, over Navarro. The Gobblers scored the game’s first 48 points. The Mean Green built a 34-0 halftime lead on the strength of three Jordan Whittington touchdowns and two from Kieran Grant. Cuero is going to the state semifinals for the first time in three years. The Gobblers will face Silsbee, 19-9 winners over West Orange-Stark. That game will be Friday, 7:30 p.m., Legacy Stadium in Katy. Cuero will be visitors, and the tickets are $8 and $10 presale, $10 at the gate. This was the sixth straight year Cuero had faced Navarro in the playoffs, and the Mean Green had beaten the Panthers this year in district, 43-7.

Yoakum is in the 3A Division I state semifinals for the third straight year. The Bulldogs win in the state quarterfinals over Edna, 42-6, at Texas State’s Jim Wacker Stadium. Hagen Garvin throws for three touchdowns, two of them to Holden Lauer, and runs for another TD. The Bulldogs outscore the Cowboys 21-0 in the second half. Yoakum, now 13-2, will face Grandview, a 36-35 overtime winner over East Chambers, in the state semfiinals Friday, 7:00 P.M., Pflugerville Kuempel Stadium. Edna ends with a 12-2, with both of its losses coming against Yoakum.
