Cuero Wins Big District Game Against Navarro
In a meeting between 4A powerhouses, Cuero left no doubt.
The Gobblers defeated Navarro, 43-7 on Friday to inch closer to the 13-4A division II crown. The Panthers were 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district entering the contest, but couldn’t get much going offensively and failed to slow the Mean Green in a game more lopsided than many anticipated.
Cuero set the tone early on Friday, getting a big fourth down stop on the Panthers’ first drive of the game to stop Navarro’s offense in its tracks. The Gobblers would go on to score on their next two possessions, and would take a 30-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
“I thought that set the tone for the night,” Gobblers head coach Travis Reeve said of the fourth down stand. “We felt like we had to come out early and set the tone on both sides of the ball.”
Next up for the Mean Green is another district battle with playoff implications against also-undefeated Wimberley. Wimberley defeated Cuero in the playoffs a season ago.
“It’d be a great win,” Reeve said. “We’ve got a lot of respect for (Wimberley). We know what kind of a program that they have and we’re going to their place. So we expect another big battle next week, and we’re looking forward to it.”
