Cuero summer track program prepare for state meet
38 runners under the age group of 18 qualified in the regionals
CUERO, Texas– The Cuero track summer team is headed to the state meet.
38 runners under the age group of 18 qualified in the regionals to participate on the big stage at Cabinass field in Corpus Christi.
Cuero summer track coach Victor Mathis, is proud of his athletes and all the work they put in.
“We work a lot on technique and making sure that the kids have fun, usually when the kids have fun that’s when they perform well. I tell the parents, at any level of sports no matter what the level, when you start them young that’s how you progress,” said Mathis.
The kids are from Cuero and the surrounding areas. The athletes enjoy the summer program and look to improve for the upcoming school year.
Ta’kiya Morris has been running since she was in the 6th grade and is focusing on working on her triple jump skills.
“My favorite part is meeting new people and getting to compete against every one,” said Morris.
14 and under participant Paisley Jansen’s goal is to win state but also enjoys the company of the younger athletes too.
“I think its going to be really adorable watching the kids grow up and trying their hardest,” said Jansen.
The state track meet will begin on July 29 and run through August 1 in Corpus Christi.
