Cuero PD, RCSO warn of potential scams
The Cuero Police Department and Rufugio County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents of potential scams making the rounds.
According to the Cuero Police Department, “We’ve been made aware of a scam going on…if you receive a call from (361) 210-7136 and the person identifies themselves as being with the Cuero Police Department, DO NOT GIVE YOUR INFORMATION!!! Apparently there are calls going around asking for vehicle information and addresses but when asked for what purpose, the caller doesn’t give a reason why.”
The Refugio County Sheriff’s Office posted a statement on their Facebook page concerning recent scam alerts. They said in the statement, “Please beware of scammers contacting you on behalf of a loved one in trouble/ in jail/injured. Typically they ask for money to be wired or sent through gift cards. Some victims have been contacted by mail. The scammers have specifics such as names, birthdates, and addresses of the relative supposedly in need of help. The elderly are especially vulnerable. Refugio County residents have been scammed! Please share with everyone you know!”
If you live in Cuero and believe you are the victim of a scam, you can contact Cuero PD at 361-275-3552.
Any Refugio residents who are concerned about potential scammers in their area can call 361-526-2351 to speak to the Sheriff’s Office.
