Alvarez Is Lone Finalist

Cuero, getting closer to hiring a new athletic director and head football coach.

KCEN-TV in Temple, reporting Tuesday night that Jack Alvarez, football head coach at Copperas Cove high school, is the front-runner, pending approval from the Cuero ISD board at their meeting Thursday night. If approved, Alvarez would succeed Travis Reeve, who took the football head coaching job at New Caney high school on January 30.

In two seasons, Alvarez had an overall record of 10-11. He led the Bulldawgs to the 2018 Class 6A Bi-District round in his first season at the helm. Prior to Copperas Cove, he led Ennis to 3 state championship appearances, including winning the 2014 Class 5A DII State Championship. He had a record of 60-25.  Before that, Alvarez turned Kirbyville into a powerhouse from 2000-2010.
