Cuero Baseball & Softball Playoff Previews

There is a lot of playoff action going on in The Gobbler Capital Of The World.
Cuero softball, making it to round four of the 4A playoffs for the first time in two years. Regan Dunn ran for Cuero in the 800 meter relay at state in Austin last Saturday, then she drove down to Tuloso-Midway and caught up with her softball teammates just in time for them to beat Rio Hondo in three in the regional quarterfinals. I talked with Regan and one of her teammates about making it this far. Said Dunn, “It’s very exciting. Our sophomore year we had a completely different team. It’s amazing to see how two completely different teams with completely different outlooks and the way we act mesh together.” Said center fielder Maraya Guzman, “This year is so much different than years past. There’s such a family vibe to this team. We perform great every single year. Being able to accomplish what we have this season and still be going is a really great feeling.”
Cuero softball’s next playoff series starts Thursday night.
The Lady Gobblers’ 4A Regional semifinals against Sweeny will be in El Campo starting Thursday night at 7:00, game two there Friday night at 7:00. If game three is needed, that will come Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
Cuero baseball is in round three of the playoffs for the first time in four years. The Gobblers first went through district without a loss. Then last weekend, the Mean Green swept Sinton in two straight in the Area playoffs, upping their record to 23-6. I asked two Cuero baseball players how excited they are to still be in the playoffs. Said 1B-P Jared Barta, “It’s been fun. We’ve had to overcome some obstacles along the way and playing together as a team is really fun.” Said P-SS Cole Payne, “It’s been a lot of fun. I feel our team has really come together and just having a group that not only gets after it but also has fun doing it has been a great experience.”
