City Council propose no increase in taxes for 2021

The Victoria City Council is proposing to keep the same tax rate of 0.61115 cents per 100-dollars of property valuation going into the 2021 fiscal year. That’s less than the no-new revenue tax rate of point 0.6122 cents per 100-dollars property valuation for the fiscal year 2020.

The proposal takes into account the financial impact of COVID-19 on local residents. City Manager Jesus Garza says the goal is to reduce the financial burden on taxpayers. He says staff had to do some creative thinking to balance the budget.

“Council members verbalized that as well so when we were having that conversation with Council on Tuesday they also verbalized the importance of trying to keep that as low as possible, said Jesus Garza, Victoria City Manager.

In a specially-called virtual meeting Tuesday, the city council voted unanimously to move forward with keeping the proposed tax rate flat for the fiscal year 2021.
