Cornyn Previews What Americans Can Expect from Judge Kavanaugh
‘He is somebody who calls balls and strikes and doesn’t come up with his own strike zone.’
‘I think there will be a contest here for the most ridiculous thing people will say about this nominee.’
WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom to discuss Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. Excerpts from his appearance are below, and video can be found here.
On What the American People will Learn about Judge Kavanaugh:
“They’ll learn he’s a decent, good man and somebody who’s given his life to judging. He’s got a lifetime-tenured job on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals and an extensive record, but he is somebody who calls balls and strikes and doesn’t come up with his own strike zone. So I think you’ll learn a lot about his approach to judging, and I think it will reassure a lot of people that he is a good nominee, and he’ll make a great addition to the Supreme Court.”
On Democrats’ Attempts to Derail Judge Kavanaugh’s Confirmation:
“I think there will be a contest here for the most ridiculous thing people will say about this nominee.”
“I think they know all they need to know about Judge Kavanaugh, and all they’ve been wanting to avail themselves of, and I doubt they’ve looked at all those documents, but this is about delaying and ultimately derailing this nominee. Ultimately, I think they’re disappointed that President Trump is the one making this nomination, not President Hillary Clinton.”
Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
