Congressman Cloud Appointed to U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group

Congressman Michael Cloud was appointed to the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group (IPG), a bipartisan group of U.S. Representatives responsible for fostering dialogue with Mexico’s Congress on issues of importance to both nations.

In appointing Congressman Cloud to the IPG, Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy recognized Cloud’s leadership on issues of border security and trade.

“Texas is disproportionately affected by the crisis on the border, and we export $100 billion of Texas products to Mexico each year, so I’m committed to making sure our state’s interests are represented in U.S.-Mexico negotiations,” said Congressman Cloud. “A strong partnership is in the interests of both nations, and I look forward to working with Mexico to develop mutually beneficial solutions that strengthen our economy and security.”

“Congressman Cloud has established himself as a leader on issues of border security and trade, and he will bring innovative and thoughtful solutions to the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group,” said Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10), lead Republican of the group. “I am confident that his appointment to this group will be truly beneficial to the state of Texas and to the safety and prosperity of both nations.”

Congressman Cloud recently led a congressional delegation to Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley to provide out-of-state members of Congress with a firsthand understanding of the situation, and he has been an outspoken advocate of funding border security and reforming asylum laws.

He has met with President Trump and congressional leaders on multiple occasions to discuss border security and the USMCA trade agreement.

“I’m committed to free, fair, and reciprocal trade that is vital to economic growth in Texas and across both nations, and to working with Mexico as they follow through on their recent commitment to fixing the crisis on our shared border,” added Congressman Cloud.
