Conflicting stories arise about the start of the fire at White Top Motel in Yorktown
YORKTOWN, Texas — The structure fire started around 3 a.m. on Thursday morning at the White Top motel and piles of ashes were stacked outside of the room.
“We discovered that there was one person that had escaped the burning residence and was severely burned,” said Carl Bowen, DeWitt County Sheriff.
Chad Broll, of Yorktown, was identified as the occupant that was burned at the White Top Motel.
He was occupying a duplex room as the structure caught on fire, during that time he was able to get out.
“We do not know the nature of the injury other than it was a severe burn. He was subsequently transported to San Antonio Medical Center burn unit over there, he’s currently in critical condition,” said Bowen.
Carl Bowen with the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office says there were no other injuries during this incident.
Bowen also says they have conflicting information regarding what was going on at the time of the fire.
“Well as of right now the area is corded off and is still an active scene, so we’re still doing our investigative process out there,” said Bowen.
While at the scene Newscenter 25 tried reaching out to the owner of the White Top Motel to get his side of the story, but we didn’t get a response.
Currently, the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office says the fire is still under investigation, but we will update when more information becomes available.
