Community celebrates the renaming of Saxet Lake Park
Many people in the community came out to celebrate Fourth of July with the re-naming of Saxet Lake Park.
What was once Saxet Lake Park, is now officially Patriot Park.
“We wanted to change the perception of this lake. This lake has so much potential. Everything that we’ve done today, we can continue to do,” says Mike Allen.
The community brought in the Fourth of July with a bang along with a name change for the park that holds memories for many.
“We did it to honor our veterans, military, and first responders. It’s just an opportunity. They do so much for us,” says Precinct 3 Commissioner Gary Burns.
Construction has begun on a wall of honor inside the park designed to honor local military veterans and first responders.
“Any veteran that served or any first responder that served their country or their community can buy a brick. It’s $50 for an individual brick. You can put it on the wall and it will be there forever,” says Allen.
It’s a patriotic gesture made for everyone to celebrate.
“It was just a very pleasant surprise and the buy in from the community is awesome,” says Burns.
