Commissioner’s Court meeting is on Tuesday, instead of Monday next week

Commissioner's Court will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 16, since Monday is President's Day.

VICTORIA, Texas – Commissioner’s court still plans to hold their meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 16, since Monday is President’s Day.

However if inclement weather becomes a factor, then the meeting will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17, further notice will be provided for a date change.

Ben Zeller, County Judge, said he is eager to continue the following procedures. Some of the main topics still on the agenda is the consideration of approving the restrictive use of public funds for lobbying activities.

This will prevent Victoria county and any other counties from joining their non-profit county associations.

“And again it’s done under the excuse of not letting local government lobby, and that might sound good, but in reality our efforts of doing that is a tiny fraction of overall lobbying efforts. So what we’re advocating for is just the level playing field where we advocate for our communities and we can join with other counties in doing that,” Zeller said.

Another exciting approval will be for the annual live-stock show, as this is usually an in-person event, it will be handled a little bit different this year but will still go on.

“The live-stock show is still going on for folks who want to purchase animals and assist the many kids, for who this is a huge part of their lives. Although, it will be different this year, it will be no less special, no less important, and there’s still opportunities for members of the community to help out with this,” he clarified.

Finally, the court has received their record of certificate with a passing grade for complying with the Texas Commission on Jail standards.

Even though the Victoria county jail had mold issues before, they were able to resolve this issue and will obtain a certificate, stating the building meets the right hygiene standards.

“The letter from the Texas Commission on Jail standards, letting us know that the jail has passed inspections. A while back, that was obviously a challenging issue,” he explained.

Again, further notice will be provided for a date change.
