Coastal Bend Swim Leaguers Receive Regional Medals
Members of the Coastal Bend Swim League who qualified for TAAF Summer Games of Texas Swim Meet received their medals on Tuesday at an event at the VISD Aquatics Center. With between 50-60 youth swimmers qualifying, it’s the largest group from the area ever to go to State. The qualifiers include swimmers from the Victoria Wahoos, Club at Colony Creek, and Victoria Country Club.
“I’m just happy that I qualified, and I get to practice every day,” said Colby Jendrzey, who qualified in the medley relay. “I’m just happy that I made it — it’s a great feeling to it.”
The Coastal Bend swimmers will depart for the Summer Games of Texas when they begin on Thursday, with events running every day through the weekend. The Games are being held this year in College Station, at Texas A&M’s Rec Center Natatorium.
The State meet serves as a culmination of sorts for what’s been a busy summer for the Coastal Bend Swim League. Area meets have taken place on weekends at the Aquatics Center all summer long, including a city meet on June 30th and Regionals on July 14th and 15th. At that two-day regional meet, every single Coastal Bend swimmer bettered their times in at least one event.
