Closing statements in trial that found the defendant not guilty of sexual assault
VICTORIA, Texas — After more than four hours of deliberating the jury came to a verdict on the third day of the trial.
The jury found Jesse Garza not guilty of sexual assault and found him guilty of sexual harassment.
The day started with Judge Bell giving Jesse Garza the opportunity to testify in this case, but he declined.
Prosecutor Tim Poynter started with his closing statement by saying, “no means, no how many times does a person have to say it?”
Then he went on to quote Garza’s text message to the victim that said “you told me no but you gave into Papi,”
After 30 minutes the defense attorney Dexter Eaves presented his closing statement.
Eaves mentioned that the victim didn’t shed a tear during her interview and Eaves quoted the witness from Victoria County Sheriff’s Office that said, “the victim is not a credible person.”
On Friday the jury will meet at 9 a.m. at the courthouse to give Jesse Garza his sentencing.
