City Council announces new City Manager

The Victoria City Council has selected Jesus A. Garza as the new City Manager Tuesday afternoon. Garza is the former City Manager of Kingsville, Texas where he served from November 2015 until now.

While serving as the City Manager in the city of Kingsville, Garza spearheaded the development of an Economic Development Strategic Plan, redeveloped the downtown and historic district, and improved financial and performance trasnparency.

“Professionally I hope that people once they get to know me they’ll appreciate and respect the different ideas that I’ll bring forward. I look forward to working with everyone in a collaborative manner and achieve some of the goals the community has,” said Victoria’s new CIty Manager, Jesus A. Garza.

The City of Victoria looks forward to the improvements Garza will make in the coming years.

The Victoria City Council selected three finalists for the City Manager job and will conduct interviews with the finalists on April 4. There were 34 applications for the job.

According to a press release, the finalists are Andrea Gardner who is currently the City Manager of Watauga , Texas; Jesús A. Garza who is currently the City Manager of Kingsville, Texas; and John Kessel who served as City Manager of Schertz , Texas from June 2011 – January 2018.

“The process went very well, and we received very strong applications,” said Mayor Paul Polasek . “Each member of the Council reviewed the applications with our SGR representative, and we all agreed on the top three candidates.”

If selected, one of the finalists will replace outgoing City Manager Charmelle Garrett who will retire in April after 28 years with the City, including the last eight years as City Manager.

The public is invited to a meet-and-greet with the three finalists on Thursday, April 4 from 1: 30 – 2 : 30pm at the Victoria Community Center Annex, 2905 East North Street.
