Citizens Run Against Cancer returns to downtown Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas – The 5th annual Citizens Run Against Cancer returns to downtown Victoria this Saturday, October 23.

The half-marathon and 5K will benefit local patients who are fighting cancer. Since it began in 2017, more than $120,00 has been raised.

The run took a pause during the pandemic and is usually held in February but was moved to October out of concern for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Bud Mendez, a community specialist with Citizens Medical Center, said event organizers feel it’s important to have the 5K before 2022.

“It’s an awesome community event, the first couple of years we had a huge turn out the years after that with everything going on it was a little bit smaller,” Mendez said. “But still it’s an awesome community event. Everybody coming together to support the same cause, finding a cure for cancer.”

Online registration for the half-marathon and 5k has closed but you can still register in-person at the Citizens HealthPlex, located at 9406 Zac Lentz Parkway in Victoria.

Mendez also shared participants should be aware of some route changes made for this year’s Citizens Run Against Cancer.

The half marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Constitution Street and Main Street in downtown Victoria.
