Citizens Medical Center seeing rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations
Staff infections are on the rise as well
VICTORIA, Texas – Citizens medical center is seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases, with 90% of the hospitalized patients not vaccinated.
Dr. Daniel Cano, the Chief Medical Officer at Citizens Medical Center told us as COVID-19 cases surge, they are seeing more hospitalizations due to the virus. Citizens Medical Center is not at capacity, however, Dr. Cano is concerned about the severity of infections seen in younger adult populations. Dr. Cano said that they are also seeing more staff becoming infected with COVID-19.
Dr. Cano highlighted the concerns as cases rise:
- Approximately 90% of currently hospitalized patients are not vaccinated
- Citizens Medical Center is seeing a rise in staff infections this month
- Concerned about the severity of infections seen in younger adults
Dr. Cano also said they are concerned about the large number of people in the community who are not vaccinated because hospitalization from COVID-19 is highly avoidable with a vaccine.
