Citizens Medical Center prepares for Hurricane Harvey
Citizens Medical Prepares for Hurricane Harvey
At Citizens Medical Center our priority is the safety, health and well-being of our patients, guests and staff.
When the City and County of Victoria ordered a mandatory evacuation on Thursday, August 24 th at approximately 5pm, we consulted with the STRAC (Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council), local Emergency Management Officials and other area hospitals. At that time, the hospitals were caring for over 250 patients combined.
Without sufficient time or resources to safely do so, it was decided we would not evacuate our patients, but would shelter in place. We did transfer a few of our critical care patients while it was possible.
We have initiated our Hospital Incident Command Center and are communicating with the Office of Emergency Management to coordinate our efforts. We are coordinating with our Leadership Team and our essential personnel who will remain in the hospital to care for our patients during the storm. We have prepared for Hurricane Harvey with extra fuel for our emergency generators, additional water, food, medicine and supplies. We have physicians, staff and administrative leaders who will be stationed at our hospital throughout the storm.
We will provide additional updates as conditions change.
