Christ’s Kitchen closes due to high COVID cases

Christ’s Kitchen closes temporarily to protect the health of volunteers.

VICTORIA, Texas – 2 volunteers for Christ’s Kitchen tested positive for COVID-19. The soup kitchen was already following all CDC guidelines before the virus outbreak.

One volunteer received their results on Friday, Jan. 22 and the second one tested positive on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The kitchen was professionally sanitized on Friday, Jan. 22, in the afternoon before their second volunteer tested positive.

Right now Christ’s Kitchen is temporarily closed, until they reopen for normal operations on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Patricia Hastings, Christ’s Kitchen Executive Director, said they already cancelled Monday’s parking lot party scheduled for Jan. 18 before the outbreak because of Victoria’s overall high COVID case counts.

Here’s a list of other organizations staying open to meet the large demand of food scarcity:

  • V-Cam
  • Our Savior Lutheran Church
  • Golden Crescent’s Food Bank

The Humility Project needs volunteers to help make sandwiches on Sunday, Jan. 24, to help feed the community.

Sandwiches will be distributed in the Christ’s Kitchen’s parking lot on Monday, Jan. 25.

C-3/Victory Christian Life, Our Savior Lutheran, and First United Methodist are providing funds for the sandwiches they are making on Sunday, Jan. 24.

CORRECTION: In an earlier report, it was stated that Christ’s Kitchen did not serve lunch on Friday, Jan. 22nd, but they did serve lunch that day. The party in the parking lot on Monday, Jan. 18th, was cancelled because of the overall high COVID cases in Victoria, not because of the COVID-19 outbreak in the kitchen. This information was incorrect and incomplete. We regret this error.
