Christina Rankin-Williams named West Warriors girls basketball head coach

Rankin-Williams excited to take over as the new coach

VICTORIA,TX-  Christina Rankin-Williams is the new head girls basketball coach for the West Lady Warriors.

Rankin-Williams will be replacing longtime head coach for the Warriors, Sandra Jimenez. Rankin-Williams played college basketball at Ranger College before becoming a basketball coach in Houston 20 years ago. Rankin-Williams is familiar with the school, because her son Kevin Rankin played basketball at West. In addition, she coached at West for three years before moving to Cade Middle School to be the girls athletic coordinator. She is looking forward to bring a new and fresh coaching style to the court.

“We have to set our own expectations,” said Rankin-Williams. Victoria West has a great history of basketball and we can’t base it off of what other teams have done before. Coach Jimenez has definitely done an amazing job laying a foundation, but this team has to have its own identity.”

Rankin-Williams said she wants to teach the girls how to work together, compete, make the girls better people and hopefully make them ready for the real world. Rankin-Williams knows the most of the girls since they attended Cade Middle School.
