Children’s Discovery Museum: The S.T.E.A.M. Team Adventure Series

Victoria – This summer, campers ages 3 through 13 will have the opportunity to join the Children’s Discovery Museum at a summer camp series that promises to be an adventure unlike any other. Our Jr. S.T.E.A.M. Team members (ages 3-5), our S.T.E.A.M. Team members (ages 6-9) and our Counselors-in-Training (ages 10-13) will join forces to solve mysteries, visit the Louvre, take on the Big Apple, and visit the Texas Zoo. Families can register their campers for just one adventure or they can take on the full S.T.E.A.M. Team challenge by signing up for all 4 camps, giving them the title of Jr. CDM Ambassador. Jr. CDM Ambassadors will receive a “sneak peek” of the museum prior to its grand opening this fall, and while visiting, they will have the opportunity to share their ideas with museum staff and volunteers!

The S.T.E.A.M. Team solves a mystery! From June 27th – July 1st, campers will use their skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to solve a mystery so strange, even the grown-ups are perplexed! Campers will find out what the mystery is on Day 1 of camp and then explore clues and super fun experiments to help put the puzzle pieces together. The final puzzle piece will reveal the biggest surprise of all. (Held at the Leo J. Welder Center). The S.T.E.A.M. Team explores the Louvre! From July 11th-July 15th, the campers will travel to Paris, France to explore one of the world’s largest museums, the Louvre! Team members will replicate pieces of art using Legos, explore color mixing, and dress up like the characters in some of the most famous paintings in the world. They will learn about why museums are important, and the older children will make a very special visit to Victoria’s only Nave Museum. And of course, a little conversational French will be introduced throughout the week. (Held at the Leo J. Welder Center). The S.T.E.A.M. Team takes on the Big Apple! From July 18th – July 22nd, the campers will visit New York City! Team members will learn about how people get around in the Big Apple: through taxi cabs, the subway system, horse-drawn carriages, and through bridges and tunnels (over 2000) that form a huge network of crossings. The older kids will explore their own “Central Park” (De Leon Plaza) and all campers will enjoy a big floor piano like the one from F.A.O. Swartz. (Held at the Leo J. Welder Center). The S.T.E.A.M. Team visits the Texas Zoo! From July 25th – July 29th, the campers will get to explore their very own safari at the Texas Zoo. They will learn about the differences between animals on the land and under the sea in this year’s ZOOMU camp which has long been a Victoria tradition. Campers will design an ideal home for a tiger, a lion, or a special pair of otters and learn about what animals like to do for fun! (Held at the Texas Zoo).

The 2016 Summer Camp Series is generously sponsored by Victoria College. All camps will run from 9AM – 12PM Monday through Friday. Tuition for ages 3-9 is $150 for each week of camp; tuition for ages 10-13 is $75 for each week of camp. Early drop off will be available starting at 8AM for an extra charge of $10 per day.
