Chad Worrell takes over as head coach for the Ricebirds
The Ricebirds have four of their five offensive line returning
EL Campo, Texas– El Campo is the top ranked team in district 12-4a Division one with a projected record of 9-2, and they’ll have to do it with a new head coach this year.
Coach Chad Worrell from Brock high school, up near Fort Worth, help build up the program from scratch in Brock 10 years ago, winning a state title, along with two title game appearances.
Worrell said he left a team that went 12-1 last year because he felt he needed a new challenge and had nothing else to prove there. Now he wants to bring a title to a community that has yet to hoist the state title.
“One reason we’re here is because the community of El Campo is hungry. They’re hungry for a state championship. You could see they made the state finals twice in the history and storied tradition here in El Campo, and I think its an exciting opportunity to come here and coach kids in a community that’s hungry to take that next step,” said Worrell.
Last year El Campo made it to the second round of playoffs but would fall to Kilgore by a margin of 27-14.
The Ricebirds have four of their five offensive line returning along with junior five-star running back Rueben Owens
El Campo is ranked number six in the preseason class 4a division one rankings behind top ranked Argyle, Austin LBJ and Calallen.
