Casey Russell Named to 2018 Joe Black Cup Team

A local golf professional received a big honor over the weekend.

Casey Russell, former head pro at the Club of Colony Creek, was selected to represent the Southern Texas PGA section in the Joe Black Cup Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Ryder Cup-style tournament is an annual competition between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA sections, with the top twelve golf pros from each section competing in four-ball and foursome matches the first day, followed by singles matches the final day. The event was founded in 1981 and will be held this year at the Dallas National Golf Club on November 13th and 14th. Fresh off of last week’s STPGA Professional Championship held at Victoria Country Club, Russell says competing against South Texas’ best helps him feel out his golf game.

“It definitely lets you know where your game is at,” said Russell on Monday. “You really get to measure yourself up against the other guys that are playing great. So it really let’s you know where you’re at, and what you need to work on for upcoming big events.”

Russell resigned as head professional at the Club at Colony Creek on Friday. He represented the club in the STPGA Championship last week, finishing ninth overall.
