Car chase ends in fatal crash off of Highway 90-A

Police chase of a wanted felony suspect ended outside of East Bernard.

WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – A pursuit ends in a deadly crash off of Highway 90-A just outside of East Bernard, according to Wharton County Constable’s Office Precinct 2 John Szymanski.

The Constable’s Office assisted the Fulshear Police Department  in a pursuit of a wanted felony suspect Thursday morning.

According to Constable Szymanski, it is believed the suspect vehicle was successfully spiked, but the suspect continued down Highway 90-A.

The pursuit began in Fulshear and then down FM 1489 towards Wharton County.

The car then lost control, crashed and flipped on County Road 270 just outside East Bernard, said Constable Szymanski.

Constable Szymanski confirmed there were two people in the car.

The suspect was trapped in the car, but was taken out by East Bernard EMS and East Bernard Volunteer Fire Department.

The passenger died and the suspect was flown to a hospital in Houston, confirmed Constable Szymanski.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.

At last check with Constable Szymanski, the area was closed off as of Thursday afternoon.

The suspect and the deceased person were not identified.
