Calhoun loses for first time this season
VICTORIA, Texas — Calhoun head coach Richard Whitaker spent much of the week emphasizing physicality before his team’s game against Mexican national champions Nuevo Leon.
As it turns out, the Tigers’ tough style of play proved to be a little too much.
The Sandcrabs lost to Nuevo Leon of Monterrey, Mexico 37-21 on Friday, their first loss of the season. After falling behind 7-0 early, Calhoun managed to score on a one-yard run from Steve Johnson late in the first quarter before the Tigers scored the final ten points of the first half to take the lead for good.
The loss drops Calhoun to 2-1 on the season. The Sandcrabs have a bye next week, before traveling to Portland to take on GP on September 27th.
