Calhoun football has won its first two playoff games for the first time since 2013.
The Sandcrabs moved into the regional round after rushing for over 450 yards in the area win over Leander Glenn. Quarterback Conner Kestler, coming back strong from an injury in the first two playoff games, and last week he rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns. I asked head coach Richard Whitaker how much he expected his team to go this far in the playoffs. “We felt we had a chance this year. We had a really good, solid ballclub last year that was probably a couple of turnovers from finishing in the top three in that district last year. The nucleus of that team was back this year. We felt if we could stay healthy and things fell right we had a chance to make a run at this. We’re in that situation now and we feel good about it.”

gets to face an old playoff rival. The Sandcrabs are 0-2 all-time against Kerrville Tivy in the playoffs, losing to Tivy in 2009 and their starting quarterback, Johnny Manziel.
