Calhoun County Fire Department responds to large grass fire Thursday

Seven departments with 50 fire fighters helped battle the grass fire

CALHOUN COUNTY, Texas – Thursday afternoon the Calhoun County Fire Department responded to a grass fire on a private ranch in Point Comfort near Formosa. The wind was strong and shifted the fire at one point, said Fire Chief Galen Johnson. Seven departments helped battle the blaze with about 50 fire fighters helping until 9 p.m.

The fire burned about 1000 acres. A piece of machinery sparked the fire around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.  Seven tanker trucks brought in about 27,000 gallons of water to fight the fire.
