Burns selected as Congressman Cloud’s Chief of Staff
Congressman Michael Cloud announced Stuart Burns as his Chief of Staff. Mr. Burns will manage Rep. Cloud’s offices, staff, and legislative efforts. Mr. Burns had been serving since 2015 as Chief of Staff to Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX), who represents the 36th District of Texas, an east Texas district that includes parts of Harris County. Mr. Burns has 30 years of experience working in congressional offices in a variety of leadership roles. “Finding a first-rate Chief of Staff to promote the interests of our district was my top hiring priority,” said Rep. Cloud, “and Stuart has a reputation for integrity and a wealth of impressive management experience that will serve the people of our district well.” In addition to his professional experience, Mr. Burns is an elder at McLean Presbyterian Church and a board member of Romanian Christian Enterprises, a ministry to abandoned and disabled children. “Congressman Cloud is a person of character and the kind of leader our country needs,” said Mr. Burns. “I’m looking forward to working with him as he works to reform our federal government and serve the needs of his constituents across the 27th District.” The announcement comes just over a week after the opening of Rep. Cloud’s district offices in Corpus Christi and Victoria. Rep. Cloud had prioritized reopening constituent services in the district following his June 30 special election victory. The district offices help residents deal with federal agencies, such as the Social Security Administration, Veterans Affairs, FEMA, the IRS, and more. Additionally, Rep. Cloud voted this week in favor of repealing Obamacare’s tax on medical devices. The tax had been criticized for increasing medical costs and holding back innovation. The repeal measure passed the House of Representatives on a 283-132 vote.
