Boxer Ramon Acosta Jr. prepares for professional debut

A Victoria native boxer turns pro

VICTORIA,Texas– After winning the national championship in Lubbock a month ago, local boxing star Ramon Acosta Jr. won a state championship and will now begin his professional career.

On August 13 Acosta won the Texas state championship boxing tournament in Laredo which would be his last match as an amateur. The 20-year old says the fight was fairly easy after winning by TKO in the second round. Acosta has a few goals heading into his first professional match up, one includes bringing the world championship to Victoria.

“The first goal is to obviously win the first fight and get that one out of the way, but then eventually I want to be a world champion. The first one from Victoria. I’m exited it has been a long time coming. I’ve been boxing amateur for 10 years now and I’m ready to go to the next level. It’s a big opportunity because it’s time to show my skills in the professional level and that I’m not just an amateur. I’m ready for it.”

Acosta travels out of town to spar with other professional boxers to prepare for his first pro-match.

Acosta will have his first pro-match in Floresville on September 25th.
