Bomb Threat Suspect Arrested

HOUSTON– Authorities say they arrested a 25-year-old man who tried to blow up a confederate statue on Saturday.

Andrew Cecil Earhart Schneck was charged with attempting to maliciously damage or destroy property receiving federal financial assistance.

Court documents say a park ranger saw Schneck kneeling in the bushes in front of the General Dowling monument at Hermann Park holding two small boxes that contained duct tape, wires, and a timer.

Police say Schneck was also in possession of a clear liquid and a white powdery substance that are being tested.

Authorities have since been searching Schneck’s home, which was the subject of a similar search four years ago when federal agents were looking for materials that could be used to make nerve gas or tear gas.

In that case, Schneck was eventually convicted of not conforming to storage of explosive material and was sentenced to five years of probation and a large fine.

Schneck’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
