Bay City PD tobacco operation ends in four citations

Bay City Police Department tobacco operation results in four citations.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Bay City Police Officer Tommie Tabares headed up an undercover operation targeting clerks who illegally sell tobacco products to minors. The goal of the operation is to promote a healthy, safe environment for the young people of today. Personnel from Warrant Division, Patrol Division, and the Communications Division assisted with this operation.

During these operations, a minor between 14 and 16 years of age is sent into a business and attempts to purchase tobacco from the clerk. If a sale is made, the minor will exit the store and turn over the tobacco product to the officers. The clerk is then issued a citation for the offense of “Selling Tobacco to a Minor.” The clerk must then appear in court for the charges.

During this particular operation, four out of eight of the businesses checked failed the compliance check. The businesses that passed the inspection are Davis BBQ located at 2901 Nichols, Korner Food Store, located at 4605 Avenue F, Fuel Depot located at 3400 Avenue F, and Bay City Exxon located at 1400 7th Street.

Kudos go out to all the stores who refused to sell to our minor for doing their part to keep tobacco out of our kids’ hands.
