Automakers designate September Airbag Recall Repair Month
As Texans prepare to head out on the roads for Labor Day travel, local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram dealers are launching Airbag Recall Repair Month to urge drivers of all makes and models to check for dangerous recalled Takata airbags on their vehicles and immediately contact their local authorized dealer to schedule a free repair.
The Takata airbag recall affects millions of makes and models built from 2003-2013 by the majority of auto manufacturers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are currently 1.7 million vehicles on the road in Texas with these dangerous recalled airbags.
The need for vehicle owners to get these recalls repaired is urgent. When the inflators in these faulty airbags rupture, they can spray metal fragments into the vehicle, causing serious injury or even death to the driver and passengers. The risk of rupture increases in the heat and humidity common to Texas.
As part of Airbag Recall Repair Month, FCA US and its Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram dealers will reach drivers through targeted advertising and street teams at local events to help drivers check their vehicles for open recalls. Many local dealers are open extended hours and provide complimentary transportation while a driver’s vehicle is being repaired. Repairs take about an hour to complete and are free.
The easiest way to check for recalled airbags is with a vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN), typically located on the driver’s side dashboard by the windshield and on vehicle registration and insurance documents.
Drivers of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles can visit www.recalls.mopar.com to check for recalls and schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer. Drivers of any vehicle can check their vehicles for open Takata airbag recalls at www.CheckToProtect.org.
There is an urgent need for all vehicle owners with a recalled airbag to have the airbag replaced immediately, regardless of the make of their vehicle. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicle owners who are unable to participate in Airbag Recall Repair Month are encouraged to have this and any other open recalls serviced as soon as possible.
