Athletes Of The Week: Yoakum Boys Track
Our Athletes Of The Week are the Yoakum boys track team. National Signing Day in Yoakum. Josh Moore signs with Texas, Isaac Pope signs with Texas State, and the folks in the Land Of Leather celebrate the earlier signings of Jordan Moore with A&M and Silas Robinson with Arkansas. Major accomplishments for these four Bulldogs, but they weren’t done yet. Those four seniors formed the core of a boys track and field team that won the state 3A team title, a first in the long sports history of Yoakum High School. Said Robinson, “It was really cool. I was happy to do it for coach Owens and for all of our teammates to go out with a state championship was really cool.” Said Jordan Moore, “It was a blessing. Coming from Yoakum you always want to be in the class to do this and that. I definitely feel the class of 2018 left with a bang. It’s probably the best class to come through.” Said Pope, “We knew that there hadn’t been a championship won in track. But I wanted to win with my boys. It was an honor running with them. We bonded a lot through the football season. We didn’t win the championship in football. We had to make sure we did it in track.” Said Larry Hysaw, “It’s a big blessing for us to win this, especially for me because I’m a sophomore. That’s getting me recognized faster and helping me with my future and what I’ve got to do.” Said JaMarcus Enoch, “We did the best that we could. We got the baton around in time and came out with the gold.” Said Josh Moore, “It was very special. That’s what any senior would want, to end your high school career as a state champion. It was a great feeling, especially being the first to ever do it here at Yoakum high school. I will compete in track as well at Texas. I’ll be doing football and running track so it wouldn’t make sense for me to sit out my senior season in track and then go and do what I have to do at Texas.” The day after Yoakum High School’s graduation on Friday night, Silas Robinson reports to Arkansas and Jordan Moore reports to A&M. Monday, Josh Moore reports to UT.
