Athletes Of The Week: Emme O’Donnell & Remi Parker

Our Athletes Of The Week are Emme O’Donnell & Remi Parker. The fall sports schedule may be wrapping up, but for a pair of area runners the season’s far from over. Calhoun’s Emme O’Donnell and Remi Parker, both qualifying for this weekend’s cross country state meet in Round Rock. The two Sandies, making the cut by finishing 7th and 21st respectively at Regionals. For O’Donnell, who’s competed at the state level in track and field, it’s a chance for redemption. “It’s really, it’s a great experience. Just great to know that you’re representing Calhoun. When I was at state, it didn’t go really well. And so, now I can be back, better, and just push myself. ” Her teammate, who’s run cross country at Calhoun for four years, says she’s become a student of the sport to give herself a competitive advantage. “I study some of the sciences behind running. What’s gonna get me better, what do I need to eat to get better, or how do I get better. And so I feel like that’s helped me improve and have a little edge.” When the teammates race in Round Rock Saturday, it’ll be the first time Calhoun will be represented at state in nearly a decade. Their new coach, Shane McGrory, says they deserve all the credit for the work they’ve put in. “They’ve worked so hard, it amazes me every day. And the support we’ve gotten from the community, and every other coach who says ‘ congratulations’. But it’s all them. They put the work in, I just try and guide them in the right direction. ” With the stakes only set to get higher and the competition faster, both Emme and Remi say they’re just happy to have a teammate to share the moment.
