El CAMPO, Texas — Week one of high school football is over and this week’s athlete of the week is El Campo junior running back Rueben Owens II.

Owens attributes his success to his linemen and the work he put in over the summer.
“It feels good and means a lot. Your mom, dad and family are proud of you, everyone is proud of you,” said Owens. “It’s good to have a lot on your shoulders because it helps you mature faster.”
Owens’ favorite subject in school is math and his favorite artist is rod wave. he has the goal to rush for over 3,000 yards and score 45 touchdowns this year. although he is a long way away, it is just week two of the season. Owens and the Ricebirds have a home game against Fulshear Friday at 7:30 p.m.
