HALLETTSVILLE, Texas — Hallettsville Brahmas senior baseball player Preston Amsden is the Athlete of the Week. Amsden not only helped the Brahmas offense come back for a win, he also helped close out the game on the mound.

The Brahmas were taking on district opponent, the Industrial Cobras, and were trailing 9-2 in the sixth inning. Amsden kept his team in the game when he hit a three-run homer, which was his first homerun of the season. While still down, in the seventh inning, he hit another three-run shot. The Brahmas would take the lead and Amsden would close the game in the ninth inning getting the save.

We were just always thinking about ways that we can get back into the game, said Amsden. Just scratching a few runs here and there and then it all just kind of opened up there at the end for us.

Amsden has been playing baseball since he started tee-ball. Amsden says there is no other sport like it.

It has a lot of competition, said Amsden. You’re never going to be successful every single day, but the days you are successful it just feels amazing.

Amsden plays both corners first and third and pitches he prefers playing first base saying it makes him feel part of every play in the infield. His favorite things are the bus rides with his friends and teammates where they talk and just have a great time. Ken Griffey Jr. is his favorite baseball player and favorite subject is English. He plans on studying agriculture development and agriculture leadership in college.
