Athlete of the Week: May 17-21
Goliad track star, Kyla Hill, named Athlete of the Week
Goliad, Texas– Our Athlete of the Week this week, is Goliad track star, Kyla Hill.
Hill, a freshman, started running track at the age of three. She was inspired to run by her best friend who happens to also be on the Goliad track team.
Hill won not one, but two gold medals at the state meet and metaled in all the events she participated in.
“I definitely didn’t expect to do as good and get four medals in all the events that I got. I definitely didn’t expect that,” said Hill.
Hills favorite event to run is the 300-meter hurdles because she says it’s a longer run and allows her more time to gain the lead before the finish line.
This was Hills one and only chance to run at the state meet with her sister, Karleigh Hill who is a senior. They both made sure to make the most of it. They ran in the 4 x 400 relay together winning gold. Hill also won gold in the 300 meter hurdles and took bronze in the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump. Goliad girls head track coach Stacy Zamzow, says that Kyla Hill is a hard worker who is very talented and gifted.
“We’ve kinda seen some of the things she’s been able to do and it’s been fun watching her through the year mature and grow into the events. It was just a blessing keeping her healthy enough to make it through four events at the state track meet,” said Zamzow.
Coach Zamzow said he’s happy to have her on his team and has high hopes that she will be appearing in the Olympics in the next eight years. No pressure Kyla. Hills prepared for the state meet by running multiple repeat 200’s and 300’s in order to get faster and work up her endurance.
“All year you’re just focusing on the state meet, obviously the meets before then too, but working on getting to state,” said Hill.
Hills favorite subject in school is science, and she also plays volleyball, other than that she focuses mostly on track.
Congratulations, Kyla Hill on being named this weeks Athlete of the Week.
