Athlete of the Week: Matthew Davis
Stats: 4 touchdowns, 110 rushing yards, 223 yards in the air and 12-19 completions
VANDERBILT, Texas — This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to Industrial quarterback Matthew Davis.
Davis threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, completed 12 of 19 passes, while also rushing for 110 yards and two TDS on six runs. Davis says he couldn’t have done as well as he did without his teammates especially his lineman for blocking and receivers for making the catches.
It feels amazing! Every week when I know I did great I’ll get text messages from family members and friends telling me “Hey man good job!” I tell them “I couldn’t have done it without yall,” says Davis. “It just feels amazing to be chosen, but I know it’s not me, it’s everybody else.”
Davis says chemistry has been big for their success this year. Davis also says that he was tired after a few of his runs, but he didn’t want to stop.
My very first one, the one I broke open, I said “I gotta go, I can’t get caught.” As soon as I scored I turned around and I saw a lot of people were running at me and I knew they were wanting to celebrate so I just smiled.
Davis was talking about when he ran for 72 yards nearly untouched and having the speed to outrun the defenders. Davis says his favorite music is country, his favorite food is chicken wings, and his favorite subject is lunch. Davis and the cobras will be looking to get their first district win Friday against Mathis.
