Athlete of the Week: March 22-26
Hallettsville Brahmas outfielder Kyler Chovantz named Athlete of the Week
VICTORIA,Texas- The Athlete of the Week is Hallettsville Brahmas’ Kyler Chovanetz.
Senior outfielder Kyler Chovanetz is having quite the season this year. On Tuesday night, the Brahmas took on district opponent the Edna cowboys, Chovanetz went 2 for 2 with a home-run and collected 5 RBI’s. On the season, he has a .351 batting average with a total of 13 hits, 5 RBI’S and 3 three home-runs. Chovantez told us where he gets his success from.
“Probably in practice the most, just taking reps and doing everything as hard as we can and just working on the little things,” said Chovanetz.
Brahmas head coach Mason Briscoe says that Chovanetz helps set up before practice and cleans up after. He’s the first on the bus for road games and shows the underclassmen what it’s like to not only be a baseball player but a leader, too.
“I mean this year he’s really become a leader. He’s shown kids an example what it is to be a Brahmas baseball player and his on-field performance backs it up,” said Briscoe.
Chovanetz on base percentage is .351 and on defense he has 20 putouts. Chovanetz is committed to Blinn College and will not only continue his baseball career, but he will study mechanical engineering. Coach Briscoe jokingly says he wishes he had a 100 players like Chovanetz.
“Here’s the thing, when you practice hard you play great. And guess what, he practices hard everyday and it shows in the games,” continued Briscoe.
Chovantez started playing baseball at the age of six. An interesting fact about Chovanetz is that even though he throws with his left hand, he bats right handed. His pregame meal is a Subway sandwich without veggies. He also roots for the Astros. Congratulations to Kyler Chovanetz on being named this week’s Athlete of the Week.
