Athlete of the Week: March 1-5
East Titans powerlifter Alyssa Sauceda named Athlete of the Week
VICTORIA,Texas–This week’s Athlete of the Week is Victoria East High School sophomore powerlifter Alyssa Sauceda.
In her most impressive meet this year, she has lifted 440 on squat, 410 on dead-lift and 230 on bench for a total of 1080 pounds, which has landed her with the number one ranking for 5-A girls powerlifting. This Saturday Sauceda will compete in the girls powerlifting regional meet, where she’ll have a chance to qualify for state. Sauceda is excited and looking forward to it.
“My expectations, like coach said is to hit my numbers, make weight and have fun overall and just have a good time,” said Sauceda.
East Titans powerlifitng head coach Marcus Hernandez noticed her determination and improvement from last year.
“She did a lot of working out over the summer, a lot of training. She asked a lot of questions and all the knowledge that she gained over the summer and from lifting last year, she’s brought it to the platform here,” said Hernandez.
Sauceda was humbled and motivated since being picked as Athlete of the Week.
“I do like being athlete of the week because it seems like my work is being noticed and I know that I could keep working to get better everyday,” said Sauceda.
Sauceda will try to qualify for state in Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg on Saturday.
