Athlete Of The Week: Madyn Espindola
Our Athlete Of The Week Is Madyn Espinola
Our Athlete Of The Week is 11 years old.
It’s been quite a month for Manning’s Madyn Espindola. The Level 7 gymnast, winning three times — culminating in victory at the Simone Biles Invitational two weekends ago.
“Yeah, it’s very exciting. To see all my hard work pay off, and to see, yeah, so good. Yay.”
Espindola, placing third on the vault and beam, first on the floor, and first in the all-around at the Simone Biles.
“I come here five days a week, 19 hours a week. Sometimes it’s hard, but it’s really exciting coming in here and getting to work on my routines.”
Said head coach Beth Perez, “She’s always willing to work hard and she’s always having fun. And I think that plays a huge part in how well she’s been doing this competition season.”
Manning coach Beth Perez says Madyn’s upbeat demeanor and willingness to grow has helped launch her fast start this year.
“She is one of those girls that always comes into the gym excited to be here, and willing to work and take the corrections, and take the bad days at practice. And come in the next day with a completely great attitude”
A member of Manning’s Junior Olympic team, Espindola isn’t thinking about the world stage just yet. The sixth grader says her dream is to compete collegiately, preferably in purple and gold.
“My main goal for gymnastics is getting into college gymnastics, and getting a scholarship. Like maybe to LSU. Yeah that’s my goal for the future.”
Until then, Madyn and the Manning team are looking to continue what’s been a fantastic February. Sean Coffey, Newscenter 25 S
