Athlete Of The Week: Brandon Tumlinson

Our Athlete Of The Week is Brandon Tumlinson. Following the East Titans’ dramatic comeback from 18 points down to take the Battle For The Boot last Friday, it should come as little surprise the game’s MVP would also be our Athlete Of The Week. Senior running back Brandon Tumlinson, rushing for 191 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Titans’ charge. His head coach, Roland Gonzalez, tells us nothing he’s seen has come as a surprise. “You know, I think a lot of his success comes from his home life. He’s got a great Mom and Dad, great upbringing. He’s grounded and he knows what he wants. He’s very goal oriented. He’s gonna be successful in whatever he tries to do.” Tumlinson’s big effort Friday raises his touchdown total to 9 over the last two games. The senior, however, quick to give the credit to his teammates “I couldn’t do it without the O-line. No way, that’s where it all starts. They stepped up in the second half, and with them stepping up we were able to execute and come together as a team and get things done.” A four year varsity starter, Tumlinson says he’s just proud to be a team leader, and to pass along his experiences to the next wave of Titans players. It’s something he wishes there was more of when he was a freshman. “When I was a freshman, that’s all I wanted was somebody to tell me what I needed to do to get better. How I needed to do this, how I needed to do that. And now I’m able to do that for them and it’s honestly a really, really good feeling. “The running back will have a chance to keep those good vibes going this Friday when his Titans square off against Carroll.
