Athlete Of The Week 5-2
Our Athlete Of The Week Is Faith Kucera
Victoria, Texas — Her name is Faith Kucera. Her school is Faith Academy. It could be called a leap of faith that she would make it to the TAPPS 2A state track meet in five events. Faith, a junior, is in her first year at Faith. She was home schooled until this year. Last Saturday at the TAPPS regional meet in Bastrop, Kucera won the 400 meter dash and the long jump, took second in the triple jump, and finished fourth in the 200 and on her relay team.
“I don’t know. Hard work, I guess. My coaches are great. I’ve been home schooled so I’ve never been on a track team. Now that I’m at Faith I get to run track and it’s a really good experience.”
Said Faith Academy AD Gil Gonzalez, “First time she’s ever run track in her life. We convinced her to come out for track after basketball season and she just took off from there. She’s just a great athlete, puts in the work, and we’re happy to see her success at the state meet.”
Said Kucera, “It’s a surprise. I was just hoping to make it to regionals. I don’t know. I guess it just happened.”
Said coach Gonzalez, “Honestly I wasn’t surprised. The numbers speak for themselves. She was leading in everything going in and it was just a matter getting her best out of her that day. She did. She performed and now she gets to take it to the next level.”
Faith Kucera’s big day at state comes Saturday at Waco Midway High School.
“Hoping to do good. I haven’t seen the rest of the competiton but I’ll just go out there and do my best.”
