VICTORIA, Texas- This weekend, art students across Region 3 virtually competed in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) competition. Students from Victoria West High School (VWHS) clinched 11 of the 12 spots, advancing to statewide competition. Students who receive a Rating IV during the judging process at the regional event are eligible to advance to State through a second round of judging called Area Judging. After Area Judging is complete, the top 10% of each division of the area-qualified artworks are selected to advance to the State VASE event. The State event takes place in April.
“Students not only spend months creating their competition artwork, but also must research artists, document their original reference sources, and write about their techniques, their processes, the formal elements and principles used, critical decisions, and personal expression,” explained V.I.S.D. VASE Coordinator and VWHS Art Teacher, Sarah Ardner. “Artists worked months on these amazing artworks and weeks on the submission process. West is so proud of committed, talented, and very hardworking Warrior Artists.”
